Last year, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the New York Paid Family Leave Benefits Law (“PFLBL”) which provides employees a certain number of weeks of paid leave in order to care for loved ones. Under this program, if an eligible employee elects to take Paid Family Leave (“PFL”), the employer must guarantee the employee his or her job back upon expiration of the PFL period and, if already doing so, must provide health insurance to the employee during the PFL period.
